Getting started

What is Novou and how does it work?

Novou is a budget-first AI interior design app. In three steps:

  1. Snap a photo of any room — living room, bedroom, kitchen, home office.
  2. Pick a style and set your budget.
  3. Get your design: an AI-generated render of your room in the new style, plus a shopping list of real products that fit your budget, with links to buy each one.

A design usually takes well under a minute to generate.

Do I need to create an account?

No sign-up forms. Novou creates an anonymous account for you automatically the first time you open the app — no email, name, or password required. Your designs, wishlist, and preferences are saved to that account.

One thing to know: because the account is anonymous and tied to your device, deleting the app may permanently disconnect you from your designs. Keep that in mind before uninstalling.

Which languages and countries does Novou support?

Novou currently supports English (US) and Portuguese (Brazil), following your device language. Shopping results are localized too: US users see US retailers and prices in dollars; Brazilian users see local retailers like Mercado Livre with prices in reais. More markets are on the way.

Is Novou free?

You can try a sample design during onboarding for free. Generating your own designs requires a Novou Pro subscription — plans and current prices are shown in the app before you subscribe. See the Subscription & billing section below for how billing works.

Designs & photos

What kind of photo works best?
  • Show the whole room (or as much as possible) — stand in a corner or doorway.
  • Good lighting — daylight works best; avoid very dark or blurry shots.
  • Hold the phone level — straight-on shots produce more accurate renders than extreme angles.
  • Avoid photos with people in them.

Both camera shots and photos from your library work.

Why does the app say my photo "doesn't look like a room"?

Before generating, Novou checks that the photo actually shows an interior space. Selfies, food photos, screenshots, outdoor scenes, or extreme close-ups are rejected — this protects you from wasting a design on a photo that can't produce a sensible result. Pick a photo that clearly shows the room and try again. Rejected photos don't count against your design allowance.

Will my room look exactly like the render?

The render is an aspirational visualization — a realistic concept of your room in the new style, not a literal preview. The products in your shopping list are the closest real matches to what's shown, within your budget, but they won't be pixel-identical to the render in shape, color, or size.

Also, renders don't account for structural or electrical constraints. For anything beyond furniture and decor, consult a professional.

How does the budget work?

You set a total budget before generating, and Novou selects real products whose combined price aims to stay within it. Keep in mind that prices come from retailers and can change between generation and checkout, and totals typically exclude shipping, taxes, and assembly.

Can I see my previous designs?

Yes — every design is saved automatically to your design history, including its render and shopping list. You can also save individual products to your wishlist by tapping the heart, and find them later in the Wishlist tab.

Who owns the designs? Can I share them?

Your photos stay yours, and the renders generated for you are yours to keep and share for personal use. Note that AI outputs aren't guaranteed to be unique — similar designs may be generated for other users. Details are in our Terms of Service.

Shopping

Does Novou sell the products?

No. Products on your shopping list are sold by independent retailers (like Amazon, Wayfair, Target, or Mercado Livre, depending on your country). Tapping a product takes you to the retailer, and your purchase happens there under their prices, shipping, and return policies.

Does Novou earn money when I buy something?

On some purchases, yes. Some product links in Novou are affiliate links — if you buy through one, the retailer may pay us a commission. This never changes the price you pay; it's how we keep subscription prices low. Other retailers in your shopping list have no affiliate agreement with us — we show them because they carry the best match for your design, not because we're paid to.

The price at the retailer is different from the app. Why?

Prices and stock are fetched from retailers when your design is generated, and they can change at any moment on the retailer's side. The price shown at the retailer's checkout is always the one that applies. If an item is out of stock, check the retailer's page for alternatives.

I have a problem with something I ordered. Who do I contact?

The retailer you bought it from. Because the sale happens on the retailer's site, delivery, returns, refunds, and warranty are handled by them — check the order confirmation email they sent you. Novou can't access or modify retailer orders.

Subscription & billing

How do subscriptions and design allowances work?

Novou Pro is billed through your Apple Account as an auto-renewing subscription. Each plan includes a design allowance — the number of designs you can generate per period — shown on the purchase screen and in Profile → Subscription.

  • Allowances reset at the start of each period (weekly plans weekly; annual plans include a monthly allowance).
  • Unused designs don't roll over.
  • If a generation fails for technical reasons, it doesn't count against your allowance.
How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside Novou:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name → Subscriptions.
  3. Select Novou and tap Cancel Subscription.

You can also get there from Profile → Subscription → Manage in the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.

How do I get a refund?

Payments are processed by Apple, so refunds go through Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, and request a refund for the purchase. Apple decides refund requests under its own policy — Novou can't issue App Store refunds directly.

I subscribed but the app still shows the paywall. What do I do?
  1. Make sure you're online, then close and reopen the app.
  2. Tap Restore Purchases at the bottom of the paywall screen.
  3. Check the subscription is active in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
  4. Confirm you're signed in with the same Apple Account that made the purchase.

If it still doesn't unlock, email [email protected] with a screenshot of your subscription and we'll sort it out.

I got a new phone. Do my subscription and designs carry over?

Your subscription is tied to your Apple Account, so it follows you to a new device signed in with the same Apple Account.

Your designs are tied to your anonymous Novou account on the old device, and currently can't be transferred to a new device. We know this isn't ideal and account linking is on our roadmap. If you're stuck, contact [email protected].

Account & privacy

Who can see my photos?

Only you. Your photos are uploaded over an encrypted connection, stored privately, and used solely to create your designs. They're never made public, never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train our AI models. During generation, your photo is processed by our AI provider (Google's Gemini API) strictly to produce your design. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app, go to Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your photos, designs, wishlist, and preferences. Deletion cannot be undone.

Two things deletion does not do:

  • It doesn't cancel an active subscription — do that in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
  • It doesn't erase records we're legally required to keep (like purchase records) — see the Privacy Policy.
What data does Novou collect about me?

The short list: the photos and design preferences you provide, your designs and wishlist, an anonymous account ID, subscription status (via Apple/RevenueCat — we never see card details), and app-usage analytics. No name, no email, no location tracking, no ad tracking. The complete inventory is in our Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

My design failed to generate. Did I lose a design credit?

No — a design is only counted against your allowance when it completes successfully. Failed or rejected attempts never use one. Check your connection and tap Try again. If failures persist, email [email protected] and tell us roughly when it happened so we can investigate.

Generation is stuck on the loading screen.

Designs normally complete in well under a minute. If it's been much longer:

  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. Close and reopen the app — your design may already be waiting in your history.
  3. Try again; a failed attempt won't consume a design.
The app can't access my camera or photos.

Grant the permissions in iOS Settings: Settings → Apps → Novou, then enable Camera and set Photos to "Limited" or "Full Access". Novou only ever uses photos you explicitly select.

Something else is wrong. How do I report a bug?

Email [email protected] with:

  • what you were doing and what happened,
  • a screenshot or screen recording if possible,
  • your iPhone model and iOS version.

We read everything and usually reply within 1–2 business days.
